4 oz Butter
6 oz Treacle
2 oz Golden Syrup
2 oz Brown Sugar
5 fl oz Milk
2 Eggs (beaten)
8 oz Flour
1tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
2tsp Ground Ginger
1 tsp Mixed Spice


Heat the butter, treacle, golden syrup and sugar until melted.
When cool, add milk and eggs.
Sift the remaining ingredients together and add to the melted mixture.

Bake in a greasesd, lined tin (8 inch round, or 7 inch square or 2 lb loaf tin)at 180°C for about 1 hour.


  • If you can't find treacle use 4 oz molasses and increase the golden syrup to 4 oz.
